What's the difference between WTU and the utility?
Traditional utilities, like American Electric Power (AEP), own and operate the way electricity is transmitted and distributed to homes, businesses, and factories. The transmission wires that deliver electricity in your area are owned by AEP and transmission and distribution charges are set by regulators. In addition, the utility conducts monthly meter reads for customers and handles emergencies like power outages.
WTU is a retail energy provider. Retail energy providers (REPs) supply power to homes and businesses in the AEP footprint while offering different pricing options for customers. In Texas, WTU handles the monthly billing for customers as well.
